在选用容量交换量大的树脂同时，要兼顾树脂溶胀系数、机械强度、再生效率及交换速度等因素将经预处理成指定离子型态的离子交换树脂于室温或加热条件下，在视树脂的离子型态而定的介质中浸泡一定时间后，进行酸碱滴定，根据滴定浸泡液所耗标准溶液体积数和树脂量计算树脂总交换量及基团交换量，以mmol/g(干树脂)单位表示。由树脂含水量和密度计算体积交换量以mmol/ml(湿树脂)单位表示。并注明树脂离子的型态。
